WEDNESDAY: ZOETROPE
We teamed up with @netflix to craft this one-of-a-kind piece for the Wednesday Season 2 premiere.
We are huge fans of classic animation techniques like stop motion, we wanted to pay tribute to that spirit with something truly special. That’s when the idea of building a Zoetrope came to life—an old-school device that creates the illusion of motion by spinning a series of images in a loop.
We went way back to the origins of animation for this one. A zoetrope, first invented in the 1800s, is an old device that spins a series of images or sculptures, making them appear alive—motion from pure mechanics, no screens, just light and magic. Printed cardboard, razor cuts, glue, double-sided tape, and hundreds of tests later… this came to life.
